Under the Light of the Midnight Moon

My eyelids felt heavy
My mind felt asleep
I slowly climbed to my bed
And placed my head upon my pillow

I lied there a few moments
In the darkness of my room
Listening to the silence
In the air

Just at that moment
I felt compelled to glance out my window
I carefully dragged my head and shoulders
From the softness of my bed

I tiptoed to my window
Placed my hand upon the windowsill
Silently peeled apart the blinds
And stared out into the night

It was a calm night
Only a slight breeze blowing through the leaves
The sky was unusually bright
By the light of the midnight moon

Suddenly
I saw a small creature prancing about
Underneath my tall maple tree
Poking his nose at the ground in search of food

It was a tiny black bunny
So peaceful in the night
Glancing up at me
Then scurrying on his way

I stood in awe
Peering out at the moon
Then turned
And stumbled back to the comfort of my bed

I woke
What felt like seconds later
And felt compelled
To, once again, glance at the midnight moon

I peeled my heavy body
From my bed
Forced my tired eyes open
And peered out into the night

There he was
Waiting for my glance
I smiled, blinked
And he was gone
