It is officially proven! Not only does your driving get dangerous when drinking. You also get slower! The above graph clearly shows that, in spite of accumulating track experience, the average lap time increases by some 7%, most likely due to excessive drinking.

Race chronicles

This event featured a relatively slow cirquit, calling for medium downforce settings. This is well illustrated by the unusyally dense population of short, nimble cars (Porsche 908, Ferrari 512 S) in the fastest lap table. Quicker cirquits have been dominated by longer cars with big engines (MB CLK GTR and the Mobil and Warsteiner Porsches). The bumpy main straight caused much problems and saw many cars get airborne, MB CLK GTR style. Senna started the season on a high note taking the prestige prize of highest victory frequency, while Lauda dominated timetables. The surprise of the event was Surtees, who rocketed in the victory frequency table from last in -99 to third in the first event of -00.
Surtees later returned to his old self by blacking out in the later stages of the event.
Lauda and Fittialdi, who teamed up for the superrace, walked away with victory in dominating style, annihilating the alco-hazy opposition from Andretti-Senna. New for the super race this event was that NC2 equipped cars were used for the first time.
