It's all yours
Patrik: "'It's all
yours' sums up the whole album. I'd like to do a video for this
one; the aggression, the darkness, I think it's a great opener.
The session drummer actually came up with the title for this one;
he had a song already written that we tried by the same
name"
A Million Lies
Örjan: "This is a real
high energy track, although we never decide to do one type of a
song or another, we just write. I think this one is more in line
with the old style Misery Loves Co. than anything else on here.
Lyrically, you can interpret this as a personal one or to the
world at large"
Prove Me Wrong
Patrik: "The lyrics
pretty much speak for themselves; it's all about the end of a
relationship. Musically, it's very different to anything we ever
tried before with the acoustic guitar and lots of vocal effects.
I couldn't have seen us doing a track like this on the first
album."
Owe You Nothing
Patrik: "It's hard to
explain what this is about without giving too much away. It's not
a brattish song by any means, although it is an angry song, again
about a specific relationship, and it's a pretty harsh track to
listen to"
Complicated Game
Örjan: "We wanted to do
a cover because we wanted to see if we could take somebody else's
song and turn it into a Miery Loves Co. song. We would have done
a Joy Division track but NiN have done that already. Neither of
us listen to XTC very much at all but Complicated Game is a good
song and it's a bit odd enough to get people's attention."
Taste It (Imaginary Gun)
Patrik: "I use a lot of
'Don't fake it' type lyrics on this album and if there was one
message on this track, then it would be that alone. We wrote this
song after we saw Barkmarket play a show in our hometown of
Uppsala... although it doesn't sound much like Barkmarket
now..."
Deny Everything
Örjan: "This song
together with 'Infected', was one of the first to be written and
we were deliberately trying to distance ourselves from the techno
metal tag that was being put on us. It's a very atmospheric
track, it hardly moves at all. I've heard people compare it to
Godflesh and I'm happy with that, because I think Justin is a
very powerful songwriter."
Them Nails
Patrik: "In some ways,
this is the most extreme song on the album. We listen to a lot of
bands like Neurosis and Brutal Truth and what we've done is take
some of their influences and put it into a Misery Loves Co. vein
with a catchy chorus."
Infected
Patrik: "This was
influenced by seeing someone who resigned themself to dying. It's
a very personal track and I don't want to say too much about
it."
Feed The Creep
Patrik: It's about hidden and
institutionalised racism which gets passed down within families.
i was trying to make the point that racists and fascists don't
have to be jackbooted skinheads but they can be anyone
anywhere."
Not The Only One
Örjan: "The last song
written for the album and it fittingly finds itself as the last
song on the album. This one, like 'Deny Everything', also has a
lot of atmosphere and again, it's very different compared to our
first album. I think that it makes for a perfect closer."
