West Gotland Deep

Stereoradiographs showing a network of pyritized burrows below a pronounced time gap in the sedimentary sequence in the middle part of core 1052 from a depth of 199 m in the West Gotland Deep.

Try to study the sedimentary structures in three dimensions without the help of a stereoscope. Start with your nose close to the monitor, pull your face slowly away from it, and look through the image.

The erosional surface was in 1984 situated 14 cm below the sediment surface. As shown below the dry bulk density was considerably lower above than below the hiatus and increased from about 0.4 just above to about 0.6 just below, that is with about 50 %.
