Norrköping Deep

Partly overlapping radiographs of the upper part of core 1339 from a depth of 127 m in the Norrköping Deep.

Calculated annual accumulation of solids at coring station 1339.

The rate of sedimentation is high at this coring station. For the 40-year period 1949-1989 the calculated mean annual rate of sedimentation amounted to about 1.7 kg of solids/m2, corresponding to a varve thickness of about 8 mm.

The sedimentary sequence in the upper part of this core as in several other cores resemble those in some cores, where the annual nature of the deposits has been documented. Therefore, the given chronology and the calculated values of sedimentation rate, although uncertain, probably are of the right order. The chronology in the uppermost part of this core has also been checked against the results of caesium-137 measurements.
