Lake Torneträsk

In July 1982 nine sediment cores (cores 826 - 834) were sampled from depths between 13 and 143 m in Lake Torneträsk.

Downcore increase in accumulated amount of solids in the upper part of the nine (X-rayed) sediment cores from Lake Torneträsk.

The five softest cores, 826, 831, 832, 834 and 833 were sampled from depths (during coring) of 93.5, 142.9, 112.0, 128.9, and 122.4 m respectively, and the four hardest cores, 828, 827, 829, and 830 from depths of 12.7, 16.0, 67.2, and 68.9 m respectively. The radiographs of one of the cores is shown below.

Radiographs of core 834 from a depth of 129 m in Lake Torneträsk. The lead letter 0 marks corresponding levels on the partly overlapping radiographs.

As shown by the radiographs there is a remarkable change in sedimentary structures at a core depth of about 18 cm between the upper laminated and the lower more homogeneous deposits.
