The Sweden/Netherlands friendly page

..or something. The main reason for having this page is that I studied Dutch at the University of Gothenburg a little while ago and was surprised as to how much these two countries have in common, and I also wanted to change the fact that the only thing many swedes "know" about the Netherlands is that drugs are legal.

For your information:

• Amsterdam is the fourth largest financial center in Europe.
• Rotterdam is Europe's largest harbour.
• The unemployment rate in the Netherlands is one of the lowest in Europe; 3.2% (spring 1998).
• They make lots of cheese in the Netherlands.
• The economy is as large as the Russian, though the population is about 20 times the less.
• The many Jews in Amsterdam and Rotterdam have made these cities large jewelry centres.
• The Dutch are still very grateful for the white bread the Swedish Red Cross dropped over the Netherlands during the second world war. They still call this bread "Zweedse brood" at times.
