The island in the Caribbean that hosts two countries, Haiti and Dominican Republic. It was on this island that Christopher Columbus went ashore for the first time in the new world 5/12 1492.
He thought that he arrived to the west part of India, there by the name westindies. Columbus called the island "little Spain" and in Spanish that is Hispaniola.

I was there for the first time four days, during a merenge festival. I will not say no to go there again !

This picture was taken at the aquarium just outside Santo Domingo. We went there one day with the school and it was very interesting. There were many funny looking fishes.

    Republica Dominicana.

I took the diving certificate in the north part of the island. It's the north part of the island that is famous for it's beaches and "all-inclusive hotels". If you like all the "tourist" places then I can recommend Jack-Tar Village in Playa Dorada. It was there I took my diving certificate.
If you click on the map you will get a
full picture, and playa dorada is very
close to a city called Puerto Plata.

    • "Three little birds" is a very good
      song by Bob Marley.

I studied Spanish in Santo Domingo's old part called Zona Colonial and during my time there I got many new friends, that I will never forget and I also want to tell them that I will come back, hopefully very soon.

The thing I really like with Republica Dominicana is that the people there is so open and kind to strangers. For Example every day after school my friend and I went to the biggest street in Zona Colonial and did our homework's in a restaurant called "De Las Flores". Most often we sat out in the sun and watched the people walking along the street, many of them came to us and asked Where are you from and then they sat down and talked to us or they wanted to help us with our homework's, because of the possibility that my teachers maybe will read this I have to say we didn't accept any help from them at all :))
Hmm, ok maybe sometime but if we didn't understand we asked you the day after !

Let's get out of this subject and talk about something else instead... The nightlife ! Let's start with Mondays then you should go to Cafe Atlantico, The "hotspot" on Wednesdays is Skizo, Friday nights I think you should spend on The cave (I don't remember the Spanish name, but I will ask my friends), Saturdays doesn't matter that much just choose one I think. Saturday nights I most often went to one of the smaller bars like Depende Bar.

Beaches ?! Yes they exists, close to Santo Domingo you have one called Boca Chica, I don't like it that much because there are a lot of tourists. There are of course a lot of salesman's, one guy wanted to sell a pair of sunglasses to me for 350 pesos ( around 20 Us) and I told him "no way" and I gave him an offer, I told him him that I would buy them for 70 Pesos (around 4 Us) and after one hour he came back to me and sold them to me. So if you go there be prepared to get fooled, and if you want a sun chair don't sit down before you asked how much they want. I heard some stories and the chairs can be very expensive. We paid 25 pesos for one chair.
