During the 4 days I spent in Madrid I took some time one day and walked around a little bit, I walked for three hours and it couldn't have been better weather it was around 32 degrees Celsius, and as you can see on the pictures not a cloud on the sky. I saw only a small part of this big capital, but now I can say that I have been in Madrid.

I started to go to the Plaza de oriente that is just in front of the Palacio Real.

The statue to the left is in the middle of Plaza de oriente and in the background we can see the palace.

    The Palace guardians.

I have often thought about this guys that are guards, it can't be easy too stand there and look like a statue, especially when children are running around your legs or when guys like Mr. Bean wants to take a photo.

After that I continued on my journey through the capital, when I stopped to buy a bottle of water I saw a big square and when I entered the square I saw that I was on Plaza Mayor.

The journey continued east... After a while I reached one of the many churches that you can find in Madrid, here you see the church called Los Jeronimos. Los Jeronimos.gif (26677 bytes)

Just beside the Los Jeronimos you can find a big park called Parque Retiro, it's huge but beautiful. When I sat on the park bench there I noticed that the sound of the cars almost didn't exist.  In the park you can find a view that I think you have seen before on tv or on a postcard somewhere.
