Ska-Jazz Bands

Hybrids of jazz and ska have been recorded since ska's birth in Jamaica over three decades ago.  And New York serves as home for the legendary Skatalites as well as any number of ska musicians who can play jazz licks.  But the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble is something special because of a striking commitment to transforming challenging jazz standards.

The Articels
Proud players and purveyors of Jamaican Jazz: a crazy neo-traditional vibe somewhere between Kingston and Motown; between yesterday and next week; somewhere between Dizzy Gillespie, Don Drummond, and Desi Arnaz. Not exactly Trad, not exactly not. If you've heard them, you know what time it is!

Skatet
Skatet is a 7 piece traditional ska band with heavy heavy jazz influences from Minneapolis, MN. They are fronted by none other than Elmar Romain on the bass! Skatet has been around for about 10 years now, and they are definitely the undiscovered ska treasure of the Twin Cities. (the link goes to their page)
