The Swedish team accounted for a heroic achievement in the European Cup Qualification tournament i Alicante, Spain. After 4-2 against Austria, Sweden met the homenation and the World Cup runners up, Spain. The Spainish team was near the same team which played in the World Cup in Holland for a couple of months ago. Spain took the lead, but Sweden replied just before halftime and equalized. In the second half, Sweden took the lead with 2-1. A big sensation was at near. But Spain scored with only ten minutes to go, and the match ended in a draw. In the last match Sweden beat Malta with 2-0.

In the semifinal, Sweden ran into France which unfortunately were to diffucult for the Swedish team, which lost with 1-0. And in the last game, Sweden met Belarus, which won with 5-2, and the Swedish team finished 4th in the tournament.
