Trooper Jane In 1664, after the battle of Marston Moor, the victorious Oliver Cromwell sought shelter overnight at nearby Ripley Castle. Sir William Ingilby, owner of the Castle and prominent royalist, feared for his life and hid in the secret Priest's Hole in the Knight's chamber. Meanwhile, his sister - Trooper Jane - who had fought alongside her brother at Marston Moor now stood guard over the astonished General all night in the Castle Library brandishing two pistols to ensure his good behaviour. Ripley Castle Home to the Ingilby family since 1320. A recipe book written by the 17th Century Head Housekeeper Elizabeth Eden, included a classic ale. Now developed by Daleside Brewery, "Crack Shot" is a well-balanced and full bodied ale with a variety of hops and malts including unusual malted oats which produce a subtle hint of sweetness on the finish. It is an ideal drink for anyone who finds the phrase "The Weaker Sex" totally inappropriate! "Crack Shot" is inspired by a gutsy Lady with a lot of bottle. | ||
