Harlequin, black & blue Great Danes.....and Pugs

We have two WorldWinners!

Monica Stavenborn started her life with Great Danes in 1961 when she was 13 years old and the family bought a fawn bitch from brother and sister Lennart and Ingrid Andersson, kennel Kingsize. The bitch was called Kingsize Aniara and became Swedish and Norwegian Champion.

Monica also worked during several summers for Ulla Magnusson at kennel Airways and also in the USA at kennels Hazeldane and Danelagh. She bought her first harlequin in 1965, a male from Finland - King Anatole of Ros-Loge, but there was not any harl.breeding until 1980 when the Italianbred harlbitch Fauna dei Colossi, who Monica got from Nelly Sperbund, kennel Rosenhöi, in Norway - where mated with Ch.Kimbo zum Goldenen Stein,black and later with the harlmale Ch. Chapala Sherman from England. In that second litter was the harls Kingsize Carraldo-Fauna and his sister Kingsize Candid-Fauna, both became Nordic and International Champions. The Anderssons transfered the name "Kingsize" to Monica in the middle of the 80`s.

In the late 1980´s two great danes where imported from the USA - BMW Ouzo/black and BMW Shamrock of Magnus/harl. Shamrock where mated with Ch.Kingsize Carraldo-Fauna and the harlbitches Kingsize Exclusive Emerald and Kingsize Empress of the North was born, both became International Champions. Their brother Kingsize Excellent Exhibitor/harl, was Swedish Champion. In a second litter from the same combination Ch. Kingsize Gambling Girl was born.

Curt Ginman, kennel Yamany imported from England a harlbitch called Tarus Harlequinade of Helmlake and when Mr.Ginman quit breeding the bitch moved to Monica together with her daugther Yamany´s First Lady/harl who soon got her International Championship and became dame to three Swedish, Norwegian and International Champions, the harlequins Kingsize Memory of Me, Kingsize Memory Morning and Kingsize Money Maker. Ch. Kingsize Money Maker´s black son International and Nordic Champion Kingsize Zephyr is owned by great dane breeder and judge Birgitte Thieleman in Denmark.

Ch.Kingsize Memory Morning is dame of International and Nordic Ch., EuropeanWinner-97,KBHV-97 Kingsize Happy Hooker/black and Swedish and Finnish Ch.Kingsize Handsome Highlight/black, he sired kennel Kingsize´s P-litter nr.2, one black and and six harls (five of them perfectly showmarked) P-litter2´s dame is Kingsize Cheerful Chessie/harl a daugther of International and Nordic Ch.Kingsize Noisy Newcommer/harl.

Monica imported,also from England,International,Swedish and Norwegian Ch.Bathworth Gladys/harl and International,Swedish and Norwegian Ch. Helmlake Que Kingsize/harl, who passed away in Nov.-98 11 1/2 years old. At kennel Kingsize is also the blue bitch Swedish, Finnish and International Ch. Bantry Taghollow Back in Blue, imported from the USA, she is the dame of two blue puppies,(sire is Euw-97,NV-97,WW-98,SV-98 Norwegian,Swedish and Int.Ch.Hotpoint´s Welcome Mr.Blue/blue) FINV-98, NordicCh. Kingsize Winning Blue Weapon and her brother FINV-98,-99 NordicCh. Kingsize Wanton Blue Wardon, the male was Group Winner in Mariehamn, Åland -98!

One of the harls in the P-litter2 is now Nordic&Int.Ch,Dk Ch.WorldWinner-98,Nordic Winner-98 and Finnish Winner-98,-99, SwedishWinner2000, two is Nordic and International Ch. one is Swedish Champion and the black male is FINV-98 and Swedish&Finnish.Ch. In Sweden one CAC/CC has to be won after the second birthday before the dog becomes a Champion..

Monica has worked at the Swedish Veterinary Surgeon College in Uppsala for more than 20 years, as a veterinary surgeon and teacher, she also runs private practices one in Bålsta and one in Bro, suburbs west of Stockholm.She is also authorized judge of Great Danes and Pugs.

She was presented in "Hundsport Special", the Swedish KennelClub´s official magazine´s breeders special nr.5/96 and that interwiew was concluded with these memorable words: "- As a breeder one is always dreaming of producing the most beautyful dog, the one who cause the words "once in a lifetime", at the same time one should never forget that the seriousness in showing, importing and breeding never should have to be to large, what we are doing is a hobby!"

To this day 25 harlequin, 8 black and two blue Champions has been born at kennel Kingsize and they have all won their CAC/CC´s and Championships in competition with ALL colours. Kingsize was nr.2 in Danebreeders of the year -97, -98, -99, -00 in Sweden. One of the harls is WorldWinner, NordicWinner and Finnish Winner, one of the blacks is European Winner, one is Finnish Winner and one is Baltic Winner!   Both blue are Finnish Winners.

In 1999 the kennel produced two Champions in each colour, harlequin, black and blue - DK, FinCh. Kingsize Destination Denmark/hq, SCh.Kingsize Showmarked Son/hq, EstCh.Kingsize Someone Sable/black, BaltW-98,EstCh.Kingsize Tidy Typhoon/black, FinW-98,-99 NordicCh.Kingsize Wanton Blue Warden/blue and FinW-98,S,FinCh. Kingsize Winning Blue Weapon/blue!  

Monica is also breeding Pugs on a small scale and there has been sucess there too, kennel Kingsize has been breeder of the year for three years with it´s Pugs and and Swedish and Norwegian Ch. Kingsize Black Raisin was nr. 1 dame of the year two years in a row, it has become 14 Pug Ch. during the years. Ch.C-types Currydaughter for Kingsize, a multiwinning pugbitch by a Kingsize dame was BOB at Swedish Pug Club Speciality and WorldWinner in Milan 2000!
